The blowout experienced by the Slovenian trucker in Austria last week had a happy ending, but only just. The truck was left hanging on the edge of the Lieserschluchtbrücke on the Tauernautobahn. The bridge is 80 metres high the point where the truck was partially suspended on the crash barrier. More than 60 emergency workers were needed to secure the truck. Then the salvaging could begin. The driver was able to crawl out of the cabin. He was unhurt. Police reports stated that there was no use of alcohol or drugs. Long traffic jams were caused on the Tauernautobahn. The residents living on the Katschbergstraße, which runs under the bridge, have sufficient cat litter, the Slovenian’s cargo, for the rest of their lives. At least 24 tons of it fell on the road.
